Four Employment Contracts Relating to Various Stages of the Career of G.F.C. Smillie. (1) memorandum of agreement between Smillie, his father, and the American Bank Note Co. employing him as an apprentice in Pictorial Engraving Department for a period of 49 months at an initial salary of $3 per week until Nov. 22, 1872, and such salary as shall be determined after that time, dated October 2, 1871, with a five-cent revenue stamp affixed; (2) memorandum of agreement between G.F.C. Smillie and Homer Lee Bank Note Company employing Smillie for a period of one year at a rate of $1.66 per hour, or $70 per week, dated March 7, 1888; (3) memorandum of agreement between Smillie and the Hamilton Bank Note Engraving and Printing Co. of New York employing him to execute first-class vignette and portrait work for a period of one year to be paid on a per-piece basis, dated June 1, 1893; (4) memorandum of agreement between Smillie and American Bank Note Co. employing him as a pictorial engraver for one year at $35 per week, dated Dec. 16, 1896.
