Description

Charles Burt's engraving of Lincoln's Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton, that was utilized on the Series 1890-1 U.S. Treasury or Coin Notes. Vignette is approximately two inches by one and one-half inches and bears the imprint Bureau, Engraving (and) Printing. Vignette is on India paper mounted on card. This is presumably a late 19th century or early 20th century striking. Both show very light foxing. Card bears pencil notations of Stanton's appearance on U.S. currency via Friedberg designations.
