A British Colonial note with King George V at right and an aggressive hippopotamus on the back. The PMG back label cites "annotations" which in this case is, "Jack Carruthers / Rhodesia". It is known that in the First Matabele War of 1893-94 that took place in Matabeleland (which later became part of Rhodesia and today, Zimbabwe) that a Jack Carruthers was a scout for British/South African forces.
