Description

French Somaliland Banque de l'Indochine, Djibouti 1000 Francs ND (1945) Pick 18 PMG Choice About Unc 58 EPQ.
French Somaliland's banknote series issued during World War II was printed in Palestine, as the Bank of France was unable to meet the currency needs of its colonies around the globe. This 1000 Francs was the highest denomination of this short-lived series, and is very rare in any grade. This miraculous example is overprinted and hole punched cancelled atop an issued note with just a touch of circulation. At the time of cataloging, this example is tied for the finest grade in the PMG Population Report of only 11 notes submitted, but it is the only example at this grade level with EPQ status. Our estimate should prove conservative considering the rarity and grade level of this highest denomination banknote. A small annotation in the lower right corner is mentioned for accuracy on this breathtaking piece.
