Stunning Highest Denomination Rarity

German East Africa Deutsch-Ostafrikanische Bank 500 Rupien 2.9.1912 Pick 5 PMG Very Fine 25.
Highest denomination of Wilhelm II series of banknotes of early 20th-century German East Africa. This example is seen with a small, three digit serial number. As this was the highest denomination of the series and was exchangeable for numerous gold coins, few of these paper notes were saved to be collected today. Minor splits are mentioned for accuracy. One of the most desirable of all colonial banknotes and an African type with distinctly German visual appeal.
