Description

Fr. 261 $5 1886 Silver Certificate PCGS Apparent Very Fine 35.
PCGS has assigned the Apparent grade due to a "Small Edge Split at Top Right of Center." They are exactly correct, although it is hardly worthy of mention at this grade level. While not strictly rare, Fr. 261 is a scarcer Silver Dollar Back. The note is well-margined with excellent original surfaces that would likely have garnered a PPQ save for the split. Compared to the other Silver Dollar Back Friedberg numbers, the 261 is encountered far less frequently in high grades, with the last Uncirculated example offered almost exactly two years ago.
