Description
Iconic Chicago District $5,000 FRN - New Addition to the Track & Price Census
The Finest Graded 1928 Chicago $5,000
Fr. 2220-G $5,000 1928 Federal Reserve Note. PCGS Banknote
Choice Unc 64 PPQ.The $5,000 piece from the Chicago district offered here marks a new addition to the Track & Price Census which had previously contained just three examples for this Friedberg number, and it has the highest serial number among the four known representatives. This note, which bears plate letter G, is wonderfully preserved. Serial number embossing is displayed prominently on the back. In addition, a rich, bold green Treasury Seal is present on the face at right. These attributes, coupled with the entirely original paper the note is printed upon, has led to PCGS Banknote awarding this representative their Premium Paper Quality designation. When analyzing the PMG Population Report, it can be determined that PMG has certified one Choice Uncirculated 64 representative for this Friedberg number, with none higher. Across all districts for the Series 1928 $5,000 note, PMG has graded just one example higher than our current offering. That piece, which hails from the Richmond district, is certified at the PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ level. The PCGS Banknote Population Report affirms that this example is the sole representative of the number the company has certified. We offered the PMG 64 graded Chicago district $5,000, mentioned above, in January 2025, and it realized $456,000. That number should certainly be approached and possibly even surpassed tonight for this incredible rarity.
