Description

Striking Doubled Face Print Error

Doubled Face Print Error Fr. 1914-G $1 1988 Federal Reserve Note. PCGS Banknote Gem New 66 PPQ.
The first printing of the face was laid down and then the face received a second first printing that is shifted 2 mm to the right. This resulted in a very dark face printing that includes all black ink elements except for the black district seal, which is part of the third printing overprint. This striking error note now has a portrait of George Washington with four distinct eyes and two noses. Dr. Frederick J. Bart in his fourth edition of his error reference states on page 126 that this highly desirable type of error is "legitimately rare."
