Description

Bold Cutting Error on $100 Federal Reserve Note

Cutting Error Fr. 2173-L $100 1990 Federal Reserve Note. PMG Choice Uncirculated 63.
Cutting errors are very scarce, particularly today, where optical scanning can alert production staff to errors in the printing process. They are visually stunning, so even physical inspections will catch these errors before they are released into circulation. While the Bureau of Engraving & Printing has sold sheets to collectors and the general public, serial numbers were recorded of those sales, and this sheet was one that was produced for general circulation. The note was cut from the sheet, through the middle of the design, perfectly enough that serial numbers from two notes are visible. A small stain is visible and mentioned by PMG, on and otherwise fully Uncirculated and visually impactful error.
