Unique Fr. 1223 $10,000 Gold Certificate Face Proof
Fr. 1223 $10,000 1882 Gold Certificate Face Proof PCGS Choice
New 63PPQ.Other than cancelled Series of 1900 $10,000 Gold Certificates that were survivors of a 1935 fire at the Old Post Office in Washington, DC, where they were being stored, no issued large size $10,000 denomination Gold Certificates are available to collectors. This Series of 1882 $10,000 Gold Certificate Face Proof features a portrait of Andrew Jackson at left and 10,000 in an oval scalloped die at right. The note is printed on India paper with a "000000" roulette cancel at lower left and upper right and is mounted on a large format paper sheet. This Face Proof is the only one known to us at present and is very likely unique. This is, in fact, quite possibly the only way to acquire a BEP printed example of a $10,000 Gold Certificate, Series 1882, that is available. Once part of the landmark Joel R. Anderson Collection, this example sold for $28,800 in 2018 and we expect that level to be tested or bested tonight.
Estimate: $25,000 - up.
