Description

Elusive 1918 San Francisco $500 FRN - New Addition to the Track & Price Census

Fr. 1132-L $500 1918 Federal Reserve Note PCGS Banknote Fine 12.
A mere 23 examples of this scarce $500 FRN number are recorded in the Track & Price Census, with our current offering being a new addition to that count. The back includes an iconic vignette printed in green ink of De Soto Discovering the Mississippi. Hernando De Soto is the focal point of the design as he rides into the foreground on horseback, his party of Native American braves and white explorers looking on. While this piece has seen time in circulation, it showcases great eye appeal, nice color, and even wear. We have had the privilege of auctioning three examples of this number previously, with this note marking the fourth offering. Expect our conservative estimate to be surpassed tonight for this outstanding representative which lacks any meaningful condition impairments.
