Description

Attractive Decatur $20 Silver

Fr. 311 $20 1880 Silver Certificate PCGS Banknote Extremely Fine 40.
The portrait of naval hero Stephen Decatur appears at the right side of this attractive, lightly circulated $20 Silver Certificate. The center is filled with the large round brown seal and two brown X's which give this and all other 20s of this era the nickname "Double Sawbucks." It has the initial look of an even higher grade and, only upon close examination, can some light folds be found. A perusal of the Track & Price records reveal that this is the first example of this Friedberg number in a comment-free Extremely Fine 40 holder to cross the auction block since we offered another piece graded by PMG at this level which realized $16,200 four years ago.
