$1 Educational with PMG 65 EPQ Black Star Designation

Fr. 224 $1 1896 Silver Certificate PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ★ .
The $1 1896 Educational note is a perennial favorite with collectors. The design reflected "out of the box" thinking in terms of banknote design for the time. The face features a panoramic vignette titled History Instructing Youth. Engraved by Charles Schlecht, the design seems to reveal some interesting detail every time it is inspected, from the Washington skyline to the minutely lettered Constitution of the United States which can be easily read with a bit of magnification. The elaborate back features portraits of George and Martha Washington. This example is well printed on bright paper with original surfaces, vibrant colors, and excellent margins and face to back registration. The note has also earned PMG's black star designation indicating exceptional eye appeal for its assigned grade. It shares the highest black star grade with two other notes in the PMG Population Report.
