Description
$10,000 Treasury Certificate of Deposit Essay
Fr. UNL Hessler X134E $10,000 May 1, 1866 Act of Feb. 25, 1862
Temporary Loan of 1862 Treasury Certificate of Deposit New York
Office of the Assistant Treasurer of the United States with
Attached Counterfoil (Archival) Remainer PCGS Banknote Extremely
Fine 40.A premium example from the auction of the ABNCo archives with both a penned date and a change to the text which reads, "legal tender notes on demand." This change in wording was later adopted. This is the first example we have offered on the New York Office of the Assistant Treasurer and the first on any office to have retained its counterfoil. It has also earned the highest third party grade that we have offered for this Hessler number outside of a solitary Proof example. Our most recent offering above the grade of Fine 12 for Hessler X134E was a PMG VF 25 with comments that brought $6,600 in January 2022. Our current higher graded offering with counterfoil should bring quite a bit more. The printer's annotations, edge split at upper left, and eight POCs should not deter any bidders.
