Description
One of Two 1934 Atlanta $10,000 Notes Known
Fr. 2231-F $10,000 1934 Federal Reserve Note. PMG Very Fine
30.The Atlanta $10,000 note in this lot is serial number F00000017A. PMG lists a single Fr. 2231-F and it is a VF 30, the same grade as the note in this lot has earned. Track & Price lists a single note with serial number F00000019A and it is a raw XF that we auctioned a second time in February 2005 as part of the comprehensive Taylor Family collection. Also, the second edition of Small Sized High Denomination Notes by Stephen M. Sullivan records only two examples and those are the above two notes. Serial numbers 17 and 19 were first offered to the numismatic community by us at our September 1996 Fall auction held in Secaucus, NJ, as lots 1044-45. We have not auctioned any 1934 $10,000 FRNs at or near this grade level in over seven years. Difficult to estimate, but as luck will have it, the last 1928 $10,000 that we auctioned at or near the 30 grade level was an Atlanta example grading PMG VF 35 in our January 2025 FUN auction. It realized $336,000 and we see no reason why tonight's offering, even with minor repairs, will not at least snap at its heels.
