Fr. 159 $50 1880 Legal Tender PMG Choice Fine 15.Only 15 different serial numbers for Fr. 159 have been documented by Track & Price, with two of those locked up at the San Francisco Federal Reserve Bank and the Smithsonian Institution. The example in this lot has the highest serial number listed in T&P for this Friedberg number. Minor repairs have been skillfully executed in sealing a few small edge splits on our current offering. These repairs are best observed when the note is backlit. Overall, it is a nice mid-grade $50 for type that is from a rarer Friedberg number for the design. Our last offering of this number was in May 2022 when another Fr. 159 grading PMG 15 with minor repairs hammered at $5,520.
