Description
Dual Baxter-Fancher Courtesy Autograph Cleveland Battleship
Dual Baxter-Fancher Courtesy Autograph Low Serial Number 142 Fr.
757 $2 1918 Federal Reserve Bank Note PCGS Gem New 66PPQ.Serial number D142A in this lot has the autograph of Cashier Edwin Baxter in blue ink above his engraved signature, while Governor E(lvadore) R. Fancher signed his name in black ink above his engraved signature. This high grade Battleship has an illustrious provenance. The first recorded owner is Harley Freeman, then it made its way to dealer B. Max Mehl of Fort Worth in 1953. Its next stop was the collection of fellow Fort Worthian Amon Carter, Jr. Hickman & Oakes auctioned this autographed piece in 1988 and then the trail goes cold. This is the first auction appearance since that time of this well preserved example. We previously auctioned a cut sheet of Fr. 757 with serial numbers D81A-D84A and each note having a dual courtesy autograph of Baxter-Fancher in January 2008. Those four notes earned third party grades in the 65-66 range and all received winning bids in the range of $4,887-$6,900.
