Description

Fr. 363 $5 1891 Treasury Note PCGS Banknote Choice Unc 64 PPQ.
The government seemed to use Coin Notes in the 1890s to honor Civil War Generals. In this case the honoree was General George H. Thomas, best remembered as the "Rock of Chickamauga" for his stout defensive stand that allowed an orderly retreat of other Union forces who would ultimately win the Battle of Chattanooga. This is a lovely example with great paper surfaces and color and has good centering and margins on both sides. In our recent Central States auction, we sold a PMG 64 EPQ example for a strong $4,560.
