Description
Reverse Changeover Pair Fr. 234/Fr. 233 $1 1899 Silver Certificates PCGS Banknote About Unc 53; About Unc 55.The provenance of this pair can be traced to an April 9, 1928 meeting of the Buffalo Numismatic Association where it was exhibited by Robert Lloyd, a young college student at the time, who would go on to collect paper money until his death in 2009 at the age of 103. In 1932, Lloyd auctioned this pair of notes through Barney Bluestone. Mr. Bluestone would auction them again as part of the second Grinnell auction of March 10, 1945 as lot 963. A photocopy of page 364 from the June, 1928 The Numismatist and of page 122 from the Grinnell auction catalogue are included with this lot. A total of at least three Black Eagle reverse changeover pairs are now known, but this is the only pair that we know of that consists of Friedberg numbers 234 and 233. (Total: 2 notes)
