Description

Ex-Eliasberg Tombstone $10

Fr. 292 $10 1886 Silver Certificate PMG About Uncirculated 50.
This $10 Silver has had two long time owners dating back many, many years. Our consignor acquired it from the 1997 auction of the Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr. Collection as it was lot 3207 with serial number B685333 listed in the description. It is also stated in that catalogue that Mr. Eliasberg's notes have been off the market for decades, if not a half a century. Eliasberg is best known for putting together the only complete collection of United States coins ever assembled in the best condition possible. The collection was complete by the standards of the first half of the 20th century. The note in this lot is a tougher Tombstone Friedberg number with Track & Price listing 91 serials and that figure includes tonight's offering, which has seen very little circulation, but has had the edges trimmed. The PMG Population Report lists only four graded higher and the only AU 50 is the example in this lot.
