Fr. 2200-H $500 1928 Federal Reserve Note. PCGS Superb Gem Unc
67 PPQ.A gorgeous redeemable in gold $500 that possesses white paper, dark inks, plus serial number and Treasury seal embossing. We also observe that it is well margined on all four sides and is an exquisite note if there ever was one. A look at Track & Price informs us that the lone highest graded enumerated example of this Friedberg number by a major third party grading service is a PMG 68 EPQ example that last traded hands at our January 2010 FUN auction. The second highest graded note by a major third party grading service is the example in this lot and it is tied with only two others in that coveted position. These are the facts that helped propel this St. Louis $500 to a winning bid of $19,200 at our January 2022 FUN auction.
