Whitehall, NY - $5 1875 Fr. 404 The Merchants National Bank Ch. # 2233 PMG Choice Very Fine 35.A very attractive First Charter $5, this piece comes from this Whitehall issuer that opened its doors in 1875 and survived the entire note-issuing period. PMG has commented about rust lightened and a minor split, but those trivialities are more than compensated for by the note's bold ink colors and dark pen signatures. As a consolation prize, PMG did add a comment about "Great Color" to the holder of this pretty note.
