Newly Reported New York $100 Brown Back

New York, NY - $100 1882 Brown Back Fr. 521 The National Citizens Bank Ch. # 1290 PMG Very Fine 25.
Surprisingly, considering the number of major New York City banks, this is only the seventh $100 Brown Back to be reported from all Empire State charters combined. It is the first such piece to surface from this particular New York bank that issued large size only before closing in 1926. Quietly acquired by our consignor from dealer Alex Perakis in a private transaction several years ago, it is a very attractive note with excellent color on both face and back with dark pen signatures. PMG has commented about a minor restoration on this pretty high denomination note, but nothing is readily apparent even after close examination.
