Only Known Serial Number 1 Elko Note
Serial Number 1 Elko, NV - $5 1929 Ty. 1 The First National Bank
Ch. # 7743 PMG About Uncirculated 55 EPQ.This lovely example is the only Serial Number 1 note, large or small, known from this Elko bank, the sole issuer in the county seat of Elko County. Hailing from the "A" position, or top note from the first sheet of small size $5s, it is a very pretty note with bold ink colors, solid embossing, and just a hint of handling. According to the National Currency Foundation census, it is one of just seven Number 1 Type 1 notes reported from all Nevada banks, five of which are from one Eureka charter. Last on the market in our 2015 Long Beach auction, this pretty note realized well over $50,000. The market for Nevada notes has substantially changed since that time, but this piece is still rare and desirable enough to fetch a solid five-figure price.
