New Brighton, NY - $5 1882 Brown Back Fr. 469 The First National
Bank of Staten Island Ch. # 3444 PMG Very Good 10.From the only bank on New York's Staten Island to issue Second Charter notes, this offering is one of just three notes reported from this institution that was only in business from 1886 until 1905 when it merged with a state-chartered institution. However, of those three known examples, this piece is the only one of that trio to have made a public appearance since 1998. It has seen its share of circulation and has acquired a small internal tear, but the pen signatures are still strong and its ornate bank title layout is still bold and attractive.
