Serial Number 1 Philipsburg Brown Back

Serial Number 1 Philipsburg, MT - $10 1882 Brown Back Fr. 485 The First National Bank Ch. # 4658 PMG Choice Very Fine 35.
This wonderful Montana rarity hails from an old mining community bank that was only in business for a brief time in the 1890s. Not only is a great Serial Number 1 example, it is also one of only two Number 1 $10 Brown Backs known for all Montana banks and also one of just two pieces known from this short-lived issuer that was only in business from 1891 until its closure in 1897. The only one of the known pair from this charter to have ever made a public appearance, this is a bright and fresh note with wonderful color and bold pen signatures. It has a few light storage folds and a minor paper pull on the back, likely from spending some time in the past in a picture frame. However, the pull is very small and not distracting at all. This is truly a great western National Bank Note fit for the finest of collections.
