Rare Territorial Bank - One of Three Notes Known

Raton, New Mexico Territory - $20 1902 Date Back Fr. 643 The Raton National Bank Ch. # (W)8120 PMG Choice Very Fine 35.
A truly rare New Mexico bank, this Colfax County charter opened in 1906 and issued only Territorial Red Seals and Date Backs before liquidating in 1911. Just three examples are known (a figure which has not changed in three decades), two Red Seals and one Blue Seal. Tonight's offering is the lone Blue Seal and it is easily the finest of the three reported with neither of the Red Seals known grading better than Fine. It is a beautiful note with vibrant color, legible stamped signatures, and just light, even wear. A great Territorial note that will be a highlight of the next collection it enters.
