Description

Serial Number 1 Auburn, IN Red Seal

Serial Number 1 Auburn, IN - $10 1902 Red Seal Fr. 613 The City National Bank Ch. # (M)6509 PMG Very Fine 25.
A great Serial Number 1 Red Seal, this is the lone Number 1 note of any kind reported from this DeKalb County institution. We had the privilege of offering this note previously in our 2012 ANA auction and are pleased to make it available again to the collecting fraternity. It is a pleasing, pen signed $10 from the "A" plate position. It has acquired some circulation and folds, but retains its bold red overprint. It also did not have its top selvage cut off, therefore the initials of several BEP workmen who worked on the printing plates are observed at back upper left. Much more on this subject can be gleaned from the article at www.spmc. org - "Initials in the Margins of Large Size Proofs and Sheets" in Paper Money, Society of Paper Money Collectors, September/October 2012, Vol. LI, No. 5, Whole No. 281, pages 333-42.
