Description

One of Two Notes Reported

Hallowell, ME - $10 1902 Red Seal Fr. 613 The Hallowell National Bank Ch. # (N)3247 PMG Fine 12.
This offering represents a very rare Kennebec County bank that closed its doors in 1910. To date, just two pieces are reported from this charter - a $10 Brown Back that we auctioned two years ago for $4,080 and this $10 Red Seal that is making its first appearance since our 2009 Central States auction. It is a moderately circulated example with still legible pen signatures and a bold third printing. One of the toughest Maine towns from which to obtain an example of any kind, Hallowell had four note issuing banks all of which were gone by 1910. They are all either unreported or have at most four notes in the census.
