Third Reported Dubois, Idaho Note

Dubois, ID - $20 1902 Plain Back Fr. 658 The First National Bank Ch. # 11508 PMG Very Fine 30.
A wonderful new discovery as this is only the third note to be reported from this excessively rare Idaho bank. It comes from the only issuer that operated for just nine years in a flyspeck of a community in eastern Idaho. The First National opened in 1919 and issued only Third Charter Plain Backs before the receiver came calling in 1927. Until this evening, just two notes were reported from this charter, a $5 which last appeared on the market in a 1998 auction and a $20, which was housed in a PMG Fine 15 holder with mention of minor rust, that sold in our 2021 Long Beach auction for $8,400. This newly reported $20, therefore, gives the disappointed underbidders from two years ago another opportunity to acquire this very rare charter. It is a crisp mid-grade piece with just a couple of spindle holes and light staining on the right quarter-panel of the face. However, its colors remain bold and the stamped signatures are faint but legible.
