Rare Florida $50 Plain Back

Lakeland, FL - $50 1902 Plain Back Fr. 678 The First National Bank Ch. # (S)9811 PMG Very Fine 30.
This offering represents a very rare type and denomination for all Florida banks. Only three banks in all of Florida issued Third Charter Plain Back fifties, with the census standing at four from Lakeland and one from Sanford, a number that has not changed in at least a couple of decades. This $50 is, quite possibly, the finest of that quintet and it is making its first public appearance since a 2012 auction. It is a very pretty note for the grade and is well margined with bold ink colors and dark stamped signatures. As none of the other known $50s have made a public appearance in over twenty years, this may be the last opportunity to acquire a $50 Plain Back from Florida for many years to come.
