Description

Rare Grant-Sherman Hand Signed Colby-Spinner Specimen

Fr. 1273SP 15¢ Third Issue Narrow Margin Specimens PCGS Banknote Uncirculated 62 and Choice AU 58.
This is a beautiful example of one of the key notes of Specimen Fractional, the 15¢ Grant and Sherman Face note with autographed signatures of Colby and Spinner. These specimens were only ever found on the very rare pink and green Fractional Shields and are Rarity-5 notes, with about 35-40 pieces known. The note offers very bright and fresh unwatermarked paper, without the reverse SPECIMEN surcharge usually seen on specimen Fractionals. When these are seen, they invariably have problems of some sort. PCGS has mentioned two problems which are, "Minor Adhesive Residue, Minor Mounting Remnants," both of which are related to removal from a pink or green shield, and are invisible through the holder. Spinner's broad pen strokes have not cracked, and the note is simply one of the very finest known of this rare number. It is tightly margined as usual, but only the left face is without margin. It is paired with the proper Red Back. (Total: 2 notes)
