Description

Brattleboro, VT- Windham County Bank $100 Mar. __18__ as G16a Proof PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ, 6 POCs.
The bank was organized in 1857 and remained in business until becoming the First National Bank of Brattleboro in 1864. While lower denomination notes from this bank are often encountered, the same can not be said for the $100. The design features Justice and Manufacturing leaning over a beehive, a symbol often associated with the trait of industriousness. This vignette is flanked by oval portraits of George and Martha Washington. An orange overall tint and a white 100 protector complete the design, which is printed on India paper mounted on cardstock with six small POCs in the signature lines. This is likely the lone example of this design and variety that appeared in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale.
