Description

Houston, TX- Government of Texas $1 Apr. 1, 1838 Cr. H14 Medlar 54 PCGS Banknote Very Fine 20.
Authorized under the second issuance of Government of Texas notes with an Act of Texas Congress dated June 9, 1837, this $1s ten percent interest was payable twelve months from the issuance date. Printed by Draper, Toppan, Longacre & Co., the note features a depiction of Liberty leaning on a shield while she holds her pole and cap at left and an allegorical figure presenting a key while a lion reclines nearby at center. This variety can be distinguished from Cr. H14A by differences in the shield at left. On our current offering's variety, only one star is included, while on Cr. H14A, the large star is surrounded by smaller stars. Representing a scarcer type, this piece establishes itself as even more elusive note due to its secretarial Sam Houston signature at lower right and its lack of significant condition impairments.
