Description

Houston, TX- Consolidated Fund of Texas $1000 Sep. 1, 1838/37 as Cr. CF-12 as Medlar 84 PCGS Banknote Choice Unc 63 Details.
This example is like Cr. CF-12 except the date has been manually changed from 1837 to 1838. There is also a manuscript endorsement on the face indicating that the note was earning 10% interest commencing on September 1, 1837, and was payable on March 1, 1839. The note was payable to McKinney & Williams of Quintana, agents for H.H. Williams. This is the same McKinney & Williams firm that issued scrip from Galveston after moving from Quintana in 1838. H(enry) H(owell) Williams was a merchant and the brother of McKinney's partner, Samuel M. Williams. PCGS Banknote mentions the contemporary manuscript endorsement as well as edge and internal tears (possibly referring to the usual cut cancels). Rare and seldom offered.
