Description

Exceptionally Nice Key Steinfeld 1¢

HB-221 EP-27 Reed-ST01 1¢ S. Steinfeld About New.
Retail liquor dealer, saloon owner, and patent medicine distributor Simon Steinfeld is one of the keys for a merchant set of Encased Postage, with an enumerated population of around 20 for all denominations combined. In fact, the 1¢ denomination has a Reed rarity of R-7, 11 to 15 known. The brass color encasement is fully About New even with a tiny ding in the right tab. We also see a bit of original color visible amongst the lettering on the advertising side. The mica is essentially perfect, without any natural or circulation-caused consequential disturbances. The stamp is very lightly toned in its white sections, although the blue ink remains vivid. The stamp also has a small wrinkle and is not centered, but those conditions occurred during the manufacturing process. Our consignor chose quality and that is reflected in this exceptionally nice key Encased Postage piece that was acquired out of our 2007 FUN Auction.
