Description

Third Liberty Loan 4 1/4% Gold Bond of 1928 $50 May 9, 1918 PMG Extremely Fine 40.
A "long" term format bond, this example has 15 interest coupons, numbers 7-21, attached and two other coupons have been removed and redeemed. "Long" bond coupons start with the fifth coupon. The previously acquired "short" term bond included coupons 1 through 4 and after redemption, one would receive the "long" bond. Ink bleed is mentioned on the PMG back label and concerns the red ink on the bond proper bleeding through to the back. This is a common occurrence and does not hinder the desirability of this collectible from the war to end war. More on Liberty Bonds can be found at www.spmc.org - "Funding of the First World War Through The Liberty and Victory Loan Bonds, in Paper Money, Society of Paper Money Collectors, January/February 2009, Vol. XLVIII, No. 1, Whole No. 259, pages 3-33.
