Description
Singapore, MI- Bank of Singapore $1-$2-$3-$5 18__ G2-G4-G6-G8 Lee Sin1-1-2-3-4 Uncut Sheet Remainder PCGS Banknote Uncirculated 62.The notes issued from this Ghost Town are always popular because the town today is buried somewhere under the sand dunes along the eastern shore of Lake Michigan. The bank was one of many organized in Michigan in 1837 and was one of many to fail within a short period of time. The state Bank Commissioner's report issued on January 18, 1839, indicated that impassable roads had made an examination of the bank impossible, but that the books would be audited in the near future. Apparently, that did not go well, as a receiver was appointed on December 5, 1839. The notes are classic Rawdon, Wright & Hatch creations from the 1830s with allegorical vignettes of Commerce, Mercury, Justice, Liberty, and Ceres coupled with vignettes of steamboats and sailing vessels noted. There are a couple of cosmetic issues in the sheet selvage, but happily none involve the notes themselves.
