HB-135 EP-148 Reed-JG12 12¢ J. Gault Plain Frame Extremely Fine.A delightful 12¢ example with the Reed reference giving it a rarity rating of R-4, 31-40 known is in this lot. We feel that the census is much closer to 31 than 40. This piece has a nice problem-free tan encasement, an attractive, well centered stamp, and almost perfect mica when observed head-on, while tilting the piece does reveal some crazing close to the inside edge from 4 to 6 o'clock plus a few scattered wisps. Overall, this is a premium example both for the grade and merchant.
