Tied for Third Finest Known $100 Gold Certificate Replacement Note

45.Great color is seen on this lovely replacement note that is tied at this lofty level with an XF 45 from PCGS with two others graded higher including a PMG 63 and AU 50 at PMG. A glance at Track & Price figures confirms that $100 Gold Certificate stars are rare in all grades and excessively rare in higher grade ranges as just twelve notes are documented. This is a minuscule amount of survivors given the original print run of replacement notes was 36,000. The image of Independence Hall on the back aptly complements the portrait of Benjamin Franklin on the face on this high grade note. This piece exhibiting light circulation, bright white paper, and deep orange-gold overprint appears perfect for the assigned grade.
