Description

Round Black Trans-Mississippi Stamp

T16 $50 1861 PF-3 Cr. 81 PMG About Uncirculated 50.
This attractive green and black $50 was stamped for reissue in the Trans-Mississippi Department with a round black rubber stamp. Fricke indicated that 1,094 T16s were so stamped in Texas and that there were around 6-10 surviving examples known in 2014. This becomes only the third note known to us, with the last example crossing the auction block for $9,600 as part of our 2018 FUN Currency Signature Auction. Like that example, this note has been hammer cancelled. Those cancels have been discretely sealed and their presence is not overly distracting. A rare opportunity to obtain an excessively rare and historic piece of Confederate numismatics. We believe that our conservative starting estimate will allow the market to determine the present day price levels for this wonderful note.
