Description

Boston, MA- Market Bank $1 18__ as G8a Proof PCGS Banknote Choice Unc 64.
The Market Bank was chartered in 1832 and remained in business until succeeded by the Market National Bank of Boston in 1864. The $1 design features a detailed shipyard scene at center flanked by a vignette of a sailor carrying a bundle on his shoulder at left and an unidentified male portrait, taken from life, at lower right. A vibrant red overall tint provides a striking visual impact. The note is printed on India paper mounted on cardstock with six POCs in the signature spaces. PCGS Banknote mentions minor surface damage which apparently refers to the cardstock rather than the note itself. In any case, this has essentially no impact on this lovely National Bank Note Co. product. We believe that the surviving population of this note in Proof form is around two or three examples.
