Single Finest PMG Graded Fr. 1339SP
Fr. 1339SP Milton 3P50R.3 50¢ Third Issue Spinner Type II Narrow
Margin Back PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ.Out of the paltry eight that they have graded, this is the single finest Fr. 1339SP examined by PMG. These 50¢ backs were not included in the Specimen sets sold by the Treasury Department. They were not prepared for circulation either, as all known examples lack the large bronze "50" surcharge that appears on the regular issue notes. The population for these elusive Specimens is listed as twelve in Milton Friedberg's The Encyclopedia of United States Postage & Fractional Currency. We auctioned the only PMG 65 EPQ example for $4,800 on a $5,000 and up estimate in October 2022. We will estimate our current offering once again at that level and let the bidders decide the final outcome for this rarity that has always commanded a great deal of attention.
