Stunning Color Proof Sheet Featured in the 1990 ABNCo Archives Sale Catalog
Athol, MA- Millers River Bank $1-$2-$3 Jan. 12, 18__ as
G2a-asG4a-as G6a Uncut Proof Sheet PCGS Banknote Choice Unc 63
PPQ.The Millers River Bank was organized in 1854 and remained in business until becoming the Millers River National Bank of Athol in 1864-65. The stunning appearance of this sheet led to its being featured as a color plate illustration in the catalog for the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale (and years later as the plate sheet on page 22, Volume 3 of the Whitman catalog). The designs are wonderfully crafted by Danforth, Wright & Co. The $1 features a large red round circular frame containing a large red 1 protector flanked by a vignette of two allegorical women; one reclining and one standing strewing flowers at left and a denominational end panel at right. The $2 has an elaborate red double-lobed frame containing a large red and white TWO protector at center. This is flanked by a view of a distant passenger train crossing a railroad bridge over a river at left and a vignette of a Native American mother and child at lower right. The $3 has a dark red and white round THREE/3 medallion with a large red THREE arched over it at center flanked by a vignette of a young farm family at lower left and a denominational end panel at right. Each note, additionally has a red overall tint. The sheet is printed on India paper mounted on cardstock, with each note having six POCs in the signature lines. A highly prized and excessively rare Proof sheet with unique style that will elevate any collection to which it is added.
