Description

Continental Currency April 11, 1778 $5 PMG Very Fine 30.
The April 11, 1778, series was authorized as part of a grouping of three Resolutions passed in Yorktown, PA. Thus, this issuance is often called the "Yorktown issue". The emission was short lived, however, as it became a target for British counterfeiters, so much so that all examples were called for exchange before June 1, 1779, though the process continued until January 1, 1781, when the notes carried very little, if any, value. A hand gathering food bleeds from being pricked by thorns in the emblem at left on the face. This vignette is surrounded by the words SUSTINE VEL ABSTINE (Either survive or give up). The nature print on the back depicts willow. This well printed note bears a full frame, and it is evenly circulated with no meaningful condition problems.
