A bright Very Fine from the only bank in this Manitowoc County community on the shores of Lake Michigan to have issued Third Charter notes, doing so under two titles, this being the scarcer. The officers' signatures are darkly stamped on this highest known serial of the three $20 Plain Backs documented in the census. Manitowoc contributed to the national effort during WWII with the construction of submarines from its local shipyard. It is today the home of the Wisconsin Maritime Museum and the USS Cobia, a submarine which offers overnight lodging.
