Very Rare Pre-Printed Stock Error
Fr. 2097-C $20 2013 Federal Reserve Note. PMG Extremely Fine 40.A wild pre-printed stock error where a block style rubber stamping in blue ink of the word "APPROVED" was clearly printed over by both the small eagle and shield design element plus the right serial number. This is arguably the rarest error type as Dr. Frederick J. Bart on page 272 of the fourth edition of United States Paper Money Errors states that there are only four examples known and the note in this lot is not discussed. This $20 definitely passes the criteria necessary to qualify as a pre-printed stock error that is also found on page 272. That criteria is that the first, second, third, or security printing must rest on top of an underlying and extraneous image. This is undeniably true for this error that is destined for a great collection.
