Majestic 1861 $1000 Proof
Fr. 202d Hessler X126I (1393b) $1000 1861 Interest Bearing Note Proof Choice New, PC. The Ford Collection released another majestic proof back into the collecting community, with this face proof that was printed on light card stock and showing a great deal of embossing. The central vignette of America is an all-time favorite, while the green undertint gives off a delightful show of color. There are no issued notes known of this design, while census figures for this face proof rest in the less-than-a-handful category. This proof was once mounted, leaving evidence behind on the back, that has also slightly seeped on to the face along the right-hand edge. Flyspecks of foxing are also noticed, while an errant small black ink mark is found just inside the right-hand edge. Otherwise, this plate letter A proof is free of folds, and it has six small punch cancels along the signature blocks. It was described in the Stack's Ford catalog as a highlight of this memorable offering, and we concur.Auction Info
