Description

Utterly Problem Free Mid Grade Compound Interest Treasury Note

Fr. 191a $20 1864 Compound Interest Treasury Note PCGS Very Fine 30.
Outstanding color for the type and unlike most Compound Interest Treasury Notes, the overprint has retained its metallic color. Typically this overprint cracks the paper over the years, but there is not a hint of a crack or repair on this lovely high end VF. The note was authorized under the act of June 30, 1864 and issued on December 15, 1864, and this solid, problem-free note has not a hint of a defect or restoration. It's far brighter than one would expect for the grade and quite well margined. Fr. 191a is the most available of the $20 "middle of the book" Interest Bearing and Compound Interest Notes, but most of the notes seen are considerably inferior to this piece, both in technical grade and due to heavy restoration. The eye appeal of this note, combined with its PCGS VF 30 grade, should produce a realization near the $20,000 level.
