Description

Rare Apalachicola Red Seal

Apalachicola, FL - $20 1902 Red Seal Fr. 639 The First NB Ch. # (S)6274
Another great Florida rarity, this from a bank which issued Red Seals and Date Backs only during its short duration from 1902 through 1911. Just four examples are known, all Red Seals, with three of that number firmly ensconced in major long term holdings which are unlikely to see the light of day at any time in the near future. Your cataloguer well remembers his pleasure when he discovered this note well over a decade ago at an Atlanta coin show. Other than the one public offering this note has had, which came back in a 1995 CAA sale, the only other example from this one bank location to appear at public sale came in a 1986 Hickman-Oakes auction. Pen signed PMG graded Very Good 10, and with a nice appearance and bright red overprint despite its obvious circulation, this note is certain to delight its fortunate new owner, who will now be among fewer than a handful of collectors to own a note from this evocative Florida location.
